A Quiet Beach
On the drive out to the shore, I marked the spot where we’d been before
I felt the memories more and more, coming on, coming on
With time blown living on our own, we had a tendency to feel alone
Still a blur as to who we were, both afraid to stir
For a time, we took the piles of sand and built some castles tall and grand
We built them up with our shell-scraped hands, piling on, piling on
Too engrossed, we had built too close, nothing left to diagnose
Then the waves swept the castles away, an emptied ashtray
I’ll pass on this thought, the lesson that I caught
The surf is unstable, so hear if you’re able
You can’t quiet the waves
Can you?
All aboard to sail across the sea, it’s time to meet our destiny
And feel the waves underneath the breeze, all aboard all aboard
It’s kinda nice that we’re traveling light, simple joys and spice of life
Making moves on across the blue by the starlight
I’ll pass on this thought, the lesson that I caught
The surf is unstable, so hear if you’re able
You can’t quiet the waves
Listen …
